Duties Description Federal regulations at 40 CFR Part 58, Appendix A specify that air monitors used in evaluating compliance with National Ambient Air Quality Standards must undergo audits involving regular independent comparisons against certified calibration standards to verify accuracy of the data generated. Calibrators must also be certified for each criteria pollutant that is being monitored at each site. The Engineering Aide assigned to the Bureau of Quality Assurance (BQA) will serve as an integral part of the Ambient Monitoring Section and will be responsible for assisting in the completion of quality assurance audits at air monitoring sites located across NYS and certification of calibrators and other audit devices used by field staff. The following additional tasks will be completed at the BQA Lab: disassembling old equipment for usable parts; conducting and maintaining equipment and parts inventory; and aiding in the repair of broken equipment.
Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or possession of a high school equivalency diploma or a USAFI GED certificate (high school level) OR a satisfactory combination of education and/or experience assisting in engineering or related work, at the rate of six months of experience for one year of high school.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•Undergraduate degree or course work in the life sciences (environmental science, chemistry, biology, biochemistry, environmental engineering or studies) is preferred. Preference will also be given to candidates with experience in Microsoft Excel.
•Good communication and interpersonal skills for working with senior Air staff.
Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2025, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.

Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
Travel may be required.

Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
